"Šestine, Summer Sunshine" 2012, 34x37 cm
The Brief
The client wanted a companion piece to a painting they owned by another artist, which did not affect the subject but did dictate the size of the work and the colour palette so that the pictures might sit next to each other comfortably within the room. The bumpy hills echo iconic landscapes by Ivan Rabuzin, a master painter in the Croatian Naive tradition, while the buildings are all known landmarks from the Šestine region of Zagreb where the client spent a lot of time walking in the forest. You can just make out the tiny walkers that sprinkle the painting - miniature memories of walks taken through this much loved landscape.
